UK Resorts set for Staycation Surge
A new study has revealed that the UK Leisure and Tourism sectors are set to receive a £31 Billion boost in 2018 following a summer staycation surge.
The annual holiday report by hotel chain Travelodge surveyed 3,000 British adults and found that 85 per cent take three staycation breaks a year on average.
Shakila Ahmed, of Travelodge, said: “Our annual holiday index confirms that we have become a staycation nation.
“More Britons than ever are exploring what makes Great Britain so great, which is great news for our economy.
Further the average spend on this year’s stay at home vacation will be £823 – an increase of 37 per cent from last year. It is also the highest spend since Travelodge started its annual holiday index in 2011, when the average spend was £399.
The choice to stay in Britain, comes in part thanks to the struggling pound against the euro.
Holidaying in eurozone destinations will mean having almost £20 less in euros, based on a £500 currency transaction, Post Office Travel Money revealed.
Cornwall is set to take the crown as the top holiday hotspot for a fourth year running, according to Travelodge’s annual report. Devon is forecast to follow second and Bournemouth third. The Lake District, the Scottish Highlands and the Cotswolds will be the premier inland destinations, whilst London, Edinburgh and Bath will top city breaks.
