Chawton Park Farm Welcomes a New Shepherdess!
Hampshire’s only Wigwam® Holidays glamping site has revealed yet another ground breaking ‘first’ at their historic site.
Chawton Park Farm Wigwams includes six Running Water Deluxe en-suite cabins on a beautiful rural site once owned by novelist Jane Austen’s brother.
And they have recently recruited Rosie Salter as Estate Development Officer, whose role includes tending the farm’s Lleyn and Charollais sheep and magnificent Red Deer herd.
Nestling against the beautiful backdrop of the South Downs National Park, site owners Ian and Helen Robertson opened their site in July 2015 and have taken on Rosie to help with the development of their business.
Ian said: “Our deer herd grazes on what was originally part of a much larger Medieval deer park that was used by royalty en-route from Winchester to London. Research suggests that there were regular visits from Henry III, Edward I and Edward II. Today our Red Deer herd includes the magnificent stag, who we’ve called Mr Darcy in recognition of the Jane Austen connection.”
Chawton Park includes traditional farm buildings, deer paddocks, fields and small copses. The farm is set in an area of Special Landscape Quality and is about 20 minutes from Winchester.
