Mattresses are the key to happy guests!
A well-rested guest, is a happier guest. So, when it comes to choosing a mattress for your accommodation, make sure you are not conned by marketing gimmicks!
Staying away from home, can sometimes be daunting, as we all think the inevitable “I hope the bed is comfy and I get a good night sleep”. As nobody likes sleeping on an uncomfortable bed and so choosing, the right mattress to do the job is key. But choosing the right mattress can be a minefield, as there are so many out there. And with budget running low, beds and mattresses are the first too feel the pinch.
So, in this feature. I aim to make choosing mattresses a little easier for you. My name is Harry and I am the Marketing Director, for the Wrought Iron and Brass Bed Company Ltd.
So, let’s start with the old faithful … “Spring Counts”. Mattress spring counts are always displayed, based on a King Size and basically means, the number of springs that are nestled within the mattress.
“This mattress contains 14000 springs” is to be frank, a load of tosh! Because it is not physically possible, to get that many springs in a mattress, without stacking them on top of each other. As, the most pocket springs you can get, into a king size mattress on one layer is roughly 2000.
Which means this 14000-sprung mattress, has 7 layers of springs. Which is just ridiculous and completely not needed and is just simply a marketing tool, to make you think that more springs are better and they simply are not.
A good thing to bear in mind - is that most 1000 / 1200 / 1500 and 2000 pocket sprung units, will broadly be the same unit in 90% off all mattress manufacturers… It’s the rest of the mattress, that needs careful consideration.
Now, one thing to bear in mind, is all mattresses are subject to settlement and indents. This is where initially the body will leave an impression, whilst the mattress filling settles and compresses. But what can be done to stop it? And the answer is… it can’t, but the effects of settlement can be reduced.
Natural fibre mattresses are by far the best, when it comes to your mattresses staying plump and sumptuous for longer. As they are more forgiving than synthetics materials and fillings such as Wool, Cashmere, Cotton and Horsehair, are the best to go for. Based on their strength, ability to move naturally with you as you sleep and the fact, they will never be depressed to a level, whereby they will never bounce back… unlike foam, which the older it gets, the least responsive it becomes.
And last but not least, the ultimate no, no! Don’t let a restricted budget decided on your mattress choice. After supplying many B&B’s, hotels and wedding venues, compromising on the mattress due to budget, never reaps it’s benefits in the long run. Excellent food and a great night’s sleep, are the two fundamentals, when it comes to a happy guest and one that will be keen, to recommend your establishment over another. Make sure you invest in a good quality mattress, one that is supportive but not too firm and don’t be pulled in by marketing and sales techniques.
