£4M LUXURY LODGE DEVELOPMENT PLANNED FOR SEAHAM HALL HOTEL
The five-star boutique hotel, Seaham Hall Hotel has unveiled its plan to build 24 luxury holiday lodges within a newly-designed landscape setting on a part of their grounds.
Ross Grieve, managing director of Seaham Hall said: “Once our plans have been secured, we will be able to support our local community; as these new lodges will provide new jobs and will hopefully bring a bright and prosperous future to Seaham Hall and our beloved North East”.
He went on to discuss their plans: “Our proposal to build a collection of luxury lodges is an investment that has many benefits. It will create up to 190 jobs in the construction industry and the supply chain, whilst reinforcing our status as one of the North East’s most innovative and creative businesses out there right now!”
The Newcastle office of national planning and development consultancy Litchfields has been contracted to take on hotel’s proposals. Members of the public will be able to voice their opinions about the proposals at a consultation being held by the development team.
Senior director and head of Lichfield’s Newcastle office, Jonathan Wallace said: “Having the opportunity to diversify Seaham Hall’s accommodation offerings is a very exciting prospect”.
“With this new development we are aiming to increase coastal views whilst still preserving the historic setting that surrounds the beautiful Grade II listed hall”.
Construction is estimated to take around six-to-nine months and cost around £4m. The scheme will also create a plethora of jobs. Between 50 and 75 direct construction industry jobs will be created for the duration of the build; with an additional 75 to 115 indirect posts in the supply chain and new jobs over a similar time frame.
After being acquired by a private investor from administration in April 2012, Seaham Hall managed to gain more investment which helped cement the luxury hotel and spa’s reputation as one of North East’s leading tourism and leisure destinations.
On the 1st December, members of the public and resident locals have been invited to Seaham Hall to see first-hand the construction proposals and discuss them with the design team and the hotel’s management team.
People that attend the meeting will also be able to potentially alter the design proposals by leaving comments. By the end of this year, the developers would like to submit a formal planning application for the scheme to Durham County Council.
