Association of Play Industries
The Association of Play Industries (API) www.api-play.org is the lead trade body within the play sector and campaigns at the highest levels for policy recognition of the importance of play.
Its member companies are the UK’s leading providers of playgrounds, indoor play facilities, play equipment and safety surfacing for schools, local authorities, parish councils, leisure attractions, holiday parks, housing developments and hospitality venues.
API's accredited members are experienced, professional play experts who design, install and maintain high-quality equipment. They operate to the highest standards, abide by a strict Professional Code of Conduct, and are credit-checked and monitored regularly for financial stability. Members commit to creating play environments that deliver visible challenge and risk within well-developed safety standards.
Customers prefer to use API members as it gives them extra peace of mind. Regular monitoring ensures that members are professional, experienced and trustworthy and will go the extra mile before, during and after a project has been completed, providing long-term service and support.
Nowhere to Play Campaign
The API also lobbies government on issues related to play. The Nowhere to Play report uncovered an alarming decline in playground provision in England. This new research revealed that between 2014/15 and 2015/16 local authorities across England closed 214 children’s playgrounds, with a further 234 earmarked for closure.
The result is that, in the midst of a childhood obesity epidemic, many children have nowhere to play. The API is calling on the government for a clear show of support by investing in England’s playgrounds sufficient to halt their decline and safeguard their future.
